Yesterday evening Barbara and I slipped down to the college for some bluegrass music, and got much more than we bargained for. The first group, Tugalo Holler, was billed as a gospel group, but did a great variety of kinds of music, including an a capella rendition of Beulah Land by the husband and wife singing team.

Second was a group which favored bluegrass with a country leaning. They looked like theyapos;d worked all week in an auto repair garage, but did some slick harmonies. New Dixie Storm would themselves have been worth the mile and a half drive.

The headline group, Mountain Heart, was perhaps the most amazing group of musicians Iapos;ve seen on one stage. They were a bunch of kids, in their twenties--a banjo player with four fingers missing from his left hand, a fiddler who reminded me of a young Allison Krause, and the best mandolin and flat top guitar pickers Iapos;ve ever seen. I remember only the latterapos;s name, Clay Hess. Their lead singer was able to sing anything, from Robert Johnson style blues to 1930s black gospel, to--gasp--traditional bluegrass. Theyapos;ve already been on Grand Ole Opry and won individual awards. I predict theyapos;ll be at the top of the charts soon. Catch them if you get a chance.

call cd i music now thats

Well, as you know, Iapos;m back in Japan. Iapos;ve been having a hard time remembering what Iapos;ve talked about in emails and who I sent them too, and whoI forgot to send them to, so I just decided to start a new journal so it will all be in ONE spot

So I came to the internet cafe tonight to kick things off, but now itapos;s almost 2 in the morning and Iapos;m tired. I donapos;t remember what I was going to say. So this entry is boring. I guess itapos;s just kind of a "HeyIapos;m back" kind of message.

When I collect my thoughts (and I have more energy) Iapos;ll write some more...

Comedy sportz at el segundo was tonight. Not bad, just interesting. WEIRDEST most NOT countdown appropriate scene ever, but whatever, suddenly we all were in the scene and it just went so far downhill from there in my eyes. I think this was the first time where I truly just gave up during a scene, which was horrible of me, but it was over soon enough. Not a big deal. Props to everyone for trying.

talking to jagd calms me down a little bit. He laughs when I say nick thinks weapos;ll stay together. God, i wish that were true, that it just could be that simple, but iapos;ve watched enough boy meets world to know it can only exist on TV and even then there are trials and tribulations Jagd approves of my top choices, thinks I could do well in them. I like the slight validation there. Iapos;ve been feeling pretty shitty about myself, Iapos;m not sure how well I try to leave it at home, though.
My back has been hurting me so goddamn much. My eyes are going to burst. My head will implode soon because of these massive migraines. Migraines that are persistant and keep me up at night. Migraines that get worse when I strain to see the board, with or without glasses. Migraines that strike when I try to concentrate, but pain just spreads all over. Itapos;s really just annoying and painful.

well, I have DTASC tomorrow. Tessaapos;s a great kid, but iapos;m just remembering how strange it is to direct monologue. Just a lot of repetition and a lot of "try this" and "do it like iapos;m doing it." I mean, I want her to do it her way, but mostly, i want her to do it like carolina, peter, and I do it. Iapos;m nervous about my DTASC, but I donapos;t really care. So many other things are more important. I wish I could do well, I know my competition though. C division monologue is hardcore, and Iapos;m weak this time. I can still get on track, though.
